COLEAF
Clay project
This project challenged the way of approaching our needs in a low cost train. How do you feel when you travel alone? Coleaf was designed to bring all the confort you expect while seating for any length of time.

The cocoon, this was our main guiding principle throughout this project. Considering our need of privacy when we travel by train, we tried to adapt a round shape to the seat so that the little space for the aisle stays comfortable. We then decided to cut the edges of our seat as if we carved an egg.
The name Coleaf is a mix between cocoon and leaf, as during the research stage some curves were inspired by leaves shape.
Learning the technics of clay modelling allowed us to get to see a realistic view of the concept we imagined.
Hair dryer, oven and modelling tools were our friends during this week. The clay is a really interesting material, it's never completely drying as it's reacting to the temperature. Once you' ve given the shape of your product, the clay will be henceforth easily modified if you heat it.
